One day trip to Ait Ben Haddou via Telouat
ait ben haddou

Ait ben haddou

In the morning, you'll meet your driver/guide to journey south from Marrakech towards the High Atlas Mountains, where the majestic peaks reveal their vibrant colors, each unique and contrasting in hue and height. Enjoy the scenic view from the Tizi N'Tichka pass, a route frequented by nomadic desert tribes mainly in the summer months. Following a narrow road dating back to the French protectorate era, you'll reach the village of Telouet. Here, you can visit the Kasbah, the seat of the legendary Glaoui family who rose to power in the south during the late 19th century, and learn more about this magnificent structure. Surrounded by the towering peaks of the central massif, including Jbel Ghat reaching 12,500 feet, a labyrinth of passages leads to the main reception of the castle, where the décor is heavily inspired by the stalagmite theme of the Saadian tombs in Marrakech. The Saadian dynasty, which ruled Morocco from 1554 to 1629, named Marrakech as their capital and adorned it with marble. The Pasha intended for the Kasbah to be the most fabulous castle in the world, and it has been called the palace of a thousand and one nights. After leaving the palace, you'll drive along the Oued Malh, or "salty river" in the local language, the former caravan route from Saharan countries to Marrakech. The road winds through adobe brick villages and gorge-filled landscapes. In spring, the river swells with ice-grey and white torrents as the snow melts. Your next stop is Ait Ben Haddou, a small fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989. Its crenelated spires and rich decorations create a scene that has endured for over five hundred years. Today, it's an ideal filming location for productions like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Enjoy lunch on one of the terraces with picturesque views before taking a stroll through the village to delve deeper into its history. Then meet your driver to take a different route back to the Tichka Pass, followed by the scenic road returning to Marrakech, where you'll be dropped off at your residence or the nearest point to it.
