The zat valle
The Zat Valley is situated less than an hour from Marrakech, approximately 50 km away. Despite its proximity, it remains largely untouristed, offering a genuine experience of Berber country. The ideal time to visit is on Wednesday, the day of Tighdouine's charming souk. This local market is free from tourist shops and serves as a gathering place for villagers from the surrounding mountains to stock up on supplies, often transported by mule. Crossing the bridge, you can walk for about 15 minutes to reach the Sidi El Wafi springs, which produce slightly sparkling mineral water. The path is straightforward—just follow the locals with their containers! You can fill your bottles for free, and if you don't have any, empty ones are available for purchase. The site is popular with Moroccans who are drawn by the spring's therapeutic properties, as well as its cool, picturesque setting. There are numerous pleasant spots for dining. Continuing uphill, you will encounter local potters. Near the villages, you can enjoy a tea session and a traditional Berber lunch. This includes a local chicken tajine, offering an authentic taste of the region.
