7-Day Tangier Northern Morocco Discovery Private Circuit Tour

Overview

  • Duration:7 days 6 nights
  • Travelers:1 - 7 guests
  • Tour Type:Private Tours
  • Language:English, French, German, Italian
Northern Morocco feels different from the rest of the country, and this seven-day private circuit gives that difference enough time to register. The journey starts in Tangier, where the Strait of Gibraltar, Atlantic light, Kasbah lanes and international history immediately set the tone. From there, the route moves through Tetouan’s Andalusian heritage and into the Rif Mountains for two nights in Chefchaouen. It then turns south through Roman Volubilis and imperial Meknes to Fes, before returning north-west through Rabat and the coastal medina of Asilah.

This is not a Sahara tour pretending to be a northern discovery. There are no exhausting detours to Merzouga, no overnight bus-style marathon and no rushed Marrakech ending hundreds of kilometres from the starting point. The tour begins and finishes in Tangier, making it practical for travellers arriving by flight, ferry, train or an existing northern Morocco stay.

Day 1 belongs to Tangier. After pickup, a licensed local guide introduces the Kasbah, medina, Grand Socco and selected viewpoints without turning the morning into a shopping circuit. The private vehicle then connects the city with Cape Spartel and the Hercules Caves. These coastal stops depend on weather, official opening, parking and crowd levels, so the guide and driver keep the day flexible while protecting a comfortable hotel arrival.

Day 2 follows the northern road toward Tetouan. The city’s white architecture and Andalusian influence create a useful contrast with Tangier. A focused walk can include the royal square, medina edge and selected traditional streets, with a licensed Tetouan guide added in the Signature formula or on request. The afternoon enters the Rif and reaches Chefchaouen, where the first blue-medina walk happens after many day visitors begin leaving.

Day 3 is intentionally slower. Chefchaouen deserves more than a fast photograph in Outa el Hammam. Guests can spend the morning exploring blue lanes, Ras El Maa, quieter neighbourhoods and selected viewpoints, then choose between a relaxed afternoon in town or an Akchour nature outing. Akchour is not marketed as an effortless universal excursion: trail length, heat, water level, footing and fitness all matter. The exact programme is confirmed around the traveller rather than forced into a generic schedule.

Day 4 connects Chefchaouen with Fes through Volubilis and Meknes. A licensed archaeological guide adds real context at Volubilis, where mosaics, columns, streets and the landscape explain more than an unguided photo stop. Meknes then introduces another imperial chapter around Bab Mansour, El Hedim Square and the legacy of Moulay Ismail. The day finishes in Fes for the first of two consecutive nights.

Day 5 is a full guided Fes day. A licensed guide creates a practical route through Fes el-Bali, balancing history, neighbourhood life, food markets, craft quarters, fountains, selected monuments and the tanneries viewpoint. The medina is too large to “see everything,” so the programme prioritises quality over a meaningless checklist. Shopping is optional; the guide should never replace cultural explanation with commercial pressure.

Day 6 moves from Fes to Rabat. The motorway keeps the transfer manageable, leaving time for the capital’s calmer imperial and Atlantic atmosphere. The practical programme can connect Hassan Tower, the Mohammed V Mausoleum area, the Udayas and Bouregreg viewpoints, subject to official ceremonies and access. Spending the night in Rabat prevents the final day from becoming an excessively long drive.

Day 7 follows the Atlantic north through Asilah. Its compact white medina, sea walls and murals offer a relaxed final walk before the return to Tangier. The tour finishes at the confirmed Tangier hotel, riad meeting point, airport, port, railway station or other accessible address. Any same-day ferry or flight must be disclosed before confirmation so the Asilah stop and departure time can be planned honestly.

The assigned vehicle and driver are private to the booked party. That allows sensible flexibility with comfort breaks, photography, lunch timing, walking pace and stop length. It does not make road distance disappear or guarantee that every monument will be open. The strongest version of this tour is transparent: exact hotels, guides, meals, tickets, pickup, return and optional experiences are named before the client pays.

Explore blue streets, small squares, neighbourhood details and the Ras El Maa area before the busiest part of the day.

12:45–14:00

14:00–17:30

Option A: Akchour nature programme

Drive to Akchour for a route selected around fitness, weather, water level and daylight. The long waterfall or bridge hikes require advance confirmation and may need a specialist guide.

14:00–17:30

Option B: deeper Chefchaouen afternoon

Stay in town for additional lanes, free time, cafés, crafts and photography without adding a mountain trail.

17:30–18:30

Return and rest

Return to the hotel from Akchour or finish the city programme. Confirm the early Day 4 departure and luggage plan.

Evening

Second Chefchaouen night

Dinner is free to choose. The team can suggest a restaurant after the hotel location and dietary needs are known.

Day 04

Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Meknes → Fes

Leave the Rif for Morocco’s historical heart. Roman Volubilis and imperial Meknes are treated as real visits, not anonymous roadside photographs, before the group settles into Fes for two nights.

Distance≈ 255–290 kmRoad time≈ 4.5–5.5 hoursIncluded mealBreakfast
07:30–08:15

Breakfast and Chefchaouen checkout

Have breakfast, meet the porter if required and load the private vehicle. A punctual departure protects both Volubilis and Meknes.

Drive from the Rif to Volubilis

Travel south through changing mountain and agricultural landscapes, with one comfort stop when needed.

11:15–13:00

Licensed Volubilis archaeological visit

Walk among selected mosaics, columns, arches and streets. The route is shortened in extreme heat or when mobility requires it.

13:00–13:40

Volubilis to Meknes

Continue through olive-growing country toward the imperial city.

13:40–14:45

Lunch near Meknes

Choose a practical restaurant around dietary requirements and the day’s pace. Lunch is excluded.

14:45–16:30

Meknes imperial orientation

Explore Bab Mansour, El Hedim Square and a realistic selection of accessible monuments or medina streets. Restoration can affect the exact programme.

16:30–18:00

Meknes to Fes

Travel across the Saiss plain. Arrival depends on traffic and the exact riad access point.

Evening

First of two Fes nights

Check in, confirm the guide meeting point and keep the evening free. Two nights avoid immediate repacking after the guided medina day.

Day 05

Full-Day Guided Fes Medina Discovery

Fes is the cultural heavyweight of the circuit. A licensed guide creates a realistic full day through representative heritage, craft and market areas instead of selling an impossible promise to cover the entire medina.

Distance≈ 15–30 km localRoad time≈ 1–1.5 hours localIncluded mealBreakfast
08:30–09:00

Guide meeting and route priorities

Meet at the hotel, riad or accessible gate. Confirm mobility, monument interests, dietary needs and whether craft demonstrations or shopping are wanted.

09:00–10:00

Panoramic and gateway orientation

Begin with an exterior viewpoint, palace gate or historic entrance to understand the scale of Fes before entering the car-free medina.

10:00–12:30

Fes el-Bali morning walk

Follow representative lanes through food markets, fountains, neighbourhood services, historic exteriors and artisan areas. Paid interiors depend on tickets and opening.

12:30–13:15

Tanneries viewpoint or alternative craft stop

Visit a managed terrace overlooking the tanneries or choose another craft area. Commercial presentations must remain transparent and purchasing is optional.

13:15–14:30

Lunch inside or near the medina

Pause at a restaurant suited to the route and dietary requirements. Lunch is excluded for menu flexibility.

14:30–16:30

Afternoon medina sector

Continue through a different quarter, selected madrasa, museum, artisan workshop or market according to the confirmed programme.

16:30–17:30

Exit, viewpoint and vehicle reunion

Leave through the agreed gate, meet the driver and add a panoramic stop if daylight and traffic permit.

Evening

Second Fes night

Return to the same accommodation and keep dinner free. There is no disruptive hotel change after the demanding walking day.

Day 06

Fes → Rabat Imperial & Atlantic Discovery

Use the efficient motorway to reach Rabat with time left for the capital itself. Royal heritage, Hassan Tower, the Udayas and the Bouregreg create a calmer final-city rhythm before the Atlantic return.

Distance≈ 205–225 kmRoad time≈ 2.5–3.5 hoursIncluded mealBreakfast and dinner
08:00–09:00

Breakfast and Fes checkout

Load the vehicle and confirm the Rabat hotel access, dinner arrangement and final-day Tangier return timing.

09:00–11:45

Travel west with one comfort stop when needed. The motorway keeps the transfer efficient.

11:45–13:00

Arrival and lunch

Reach Rabat and choose a restaurant around the planned visit. Lunch and drinks are excluded.

Hassan Tower and Mohammed V Mausoleum area

Explore the monumental complex according to official access. Ceremonies or closures can change the order.

08:00–09:00

Breakfast and Rabat checkout

Load the vehicle and reconfirm the final Tangier address, flight, ferry or train timing.

Asilah medina and ramparts

15:00–16:15

Asilah to Tangier

Complete the northern coastal road to Tangier. The route may go directly to the airport or port when a protected connection requires it.

16:15 onward

Tangier drop-off

Finish at the confirmed accessible hotel, riad meeting point, Ibn Battouta Airport, Tangier Ville Port, railway station, residence or other agreed address.

Before goodbye

Luggage and property check

Check seats, luggage area and personal items before the vehicle leaves. The team confirms that all declared bags and child equipment have been returned.

Indicative schedule, personalised confirmation

Distances and times are planning estimates. Tangier traffic, ferry arrivals, official ceremonies, monument opening, Rif rain, coastal wind, trail condition, summer heat, walking pace and accommodation access can change the operating day. The final confirmation should name the vehicle, all six accommodations, room setup, guide durations, included meals, tickets, Tangier pickup and return, Day 3 option and approved price.

Does this tour start and finish in Tangier?add

Yes. Pickup is arranged from one confirmed accessible Tangier location on Day 1, and the circuit returns to one confirmed accessible Tangier location on Day 7. Airport, port, station and Medina timing must be confirmed in advance.

Is this a northern Morocco tour or a full-country tour?add

It is deliberately focused on northern Morocco and the historical corridor to Fes and Rabat. It does not include Marrakech, the High Atlas or the Sahara, which prevents the seven days from becoming an exhausting long-distance checklist.

Which destinations are included?add

The core route includes Tangier, Cape Spartel, the Hercules Caves, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes, Fes, Rabat and Asilah. Akchour is an optional Day 3 nature programme.

Is this a private or shared tour?add

The assigned vehicle and professional driver are private to the booked party. Included guides in Tangier, Volubilis and Fes are also arranged for your group. Hotels, monuments, restaurants and public spaces are shared with other visitors.

Is the €1,195 price per person and is it final?add

The displayed €1,195 is a provisional starting rate per person based on two adults sharing six nights in the Comfort formula. The final price depends on date, group size, vehicle, luggage, room setup, hotels, guide coverage, tickets and extras.

What is included in the Comfort formula?add

The Comfort formula includes private transport, driver, normal road costs, Tangier pickup and return, six named overnight stays, six breakfasts, dinner in Chefchaouen and Rabat, licensed guides in Tangier, Volubilis and Fes, planned stops and WhatsApp coordination.

What is not included?add

Flights, ferries, trains, lunches, most dinners, drinks, monument tickets, extra guides, full Akchour hikes, personal purchases, travel insurance, gratuities, single supplements, premium upgrades and major route deviations are excluded unless listed in writing.

How demanding is the seven-day pace?add

The pace is active but balanced. Tangier receives a guided day, Chefchaouen receives two nights and Fes receives two nights with a full guided day. The tour still includes hotel changes, walking and several substantial road transfers.

Are local guides included?add

Licensed local guides are included for Tangier, Volubilis and Fes according to the durations named in the final confirmation. Guides in Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Meknes, Rabat or Asilah can be added.

Are Cape Spartel and Hercules Caves guaranteed?add

They are planned, but access depends on official opening, weather, coastal wind, parking and crowds. The driver may shorten or adjust the stops when safety or timing requires it. Tickets are separate unless confirmed.

Why are there two nights in Chefchaouen?add

The second night prevents the blue city from becoming a rushed photo stop. It creates a quieter morning, more flexible walking and the choice between deeper Chefchaouen discovery and an Akchour nature outing.

Is Akchour included on Day 3?add

Akchour is an optional programme. The exact route depends on weather, water level, trail condition, daylight, fitness and requested hike length. Travellers may instead keep a full relaxed day in Chefchaouen.

Is the Akchour outing suitable for everyone?add

No. Some routes involve uneven, wet or steep terrain and can take several hours. Mobility, footwear, fitness, heat and seasonal conditions must be reviewed before confirmation. A short nature stop and a full hike are not the same service.

Is Chefchaouen suitable for travellers with limited mobility?add

Parts of Chefchaouen have slopes, steps and vehicle-free lanes. The route can focus on lower streets and central squares, but the city cannot honestly be described as fully flat or step-free. Mobility needs should influence hotel selection.

Do we visit Tetouan in depth?add

Tetouan is a focused northern heritage stop rather than a full guided day. The programme may include the royal square, medina edge and Andalusian quarters. A licensed Tetouan guide can be added for deeper exploration.

Is admission to Volubilis included?add

The licensed archaeological guide is included in the Comfort formula, but the official entrance ticket is included only when named in the final quote. The exposed site has uneven terrain and limited shade.

How much of Meknes do we see?add

Meknes is a focused imperial-city stop between Volubilis and Fes. The route normally includes Bab Mansour, El Hedim Square and selected accessible monuments or streets. Restoration and official access can change the exact programme.

How much of Fes can we realistically see?add

Day 5 is dedicated to Fes with a licensed guide, but the medina is too large to cover completely. The guide selects representative historic, artisan, market and architectural areas based on opening hours, walking ability and traveller interests.

Will we be pressured to shop in Fes?add

Shopping is optional. Some viewpoints and craft stops use private commercial premises, but the guide should explain this transparently and should not replace the cultural programme with compulsory purchasing.

What do we visit in Rabat?add

The sample programme includes Hassan Tower, the Mohammed V Mausoleum area, the Udayas and Bouregreg viewpoints. Official ceremonies, restoration and access may change the stop order or substitute comparable exterior visits.

What type of accommodation is used?add

The Comfort formula uses selected hotels or riads in Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fes and Rabat. The final confirmation must name every property, room category, bathroom arrangement, meal plan and porter access.

Are breakfasts and dinners included?add

Six breakfasts are included, subject to hotel service times. Dinner is included on the first Chefchaouen night and the Rabat night in the Comfort formula. Other lunches, dinners and drinks are paid separately unless added.

How much luggage can we bring?add

Capacity depends on the vehicle and group size. Declare all suitcases, cabin bags, pushchairs, wheelchairs and oversized equipment before confirmation so the correct vehicle can be assigned safely.

Are child seats available?add

Infant, child and booster seats can be requested before confirmation. Provide each child’s age, approximate height and weight. Availability, installation and luggage capacity must be checked for the specific vehicle.

Can the route be customised?add

Yes, within realistic limits. Guide depth, walking balance, meal rhythm, Akchour choice and selected stops can be adjusted. Changing overnight locations, adding Casablanca or Marrakech, or ending outside Tangier requires a revised itinerary and price.

What happens if a monument or road is closed?add

The operations team may change stop order, substitute a comparable exterior or cultural visit, or rebalance free time. Official ceremonies, restoration, weather and road conditions take priority over the sample schedule.

Can you pick us up from Tangier airport or port?add

Yes, pickup can be arranged from Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, Tangier Ville Port, a city hotel, railway station or another accessible address. Tanger Med is farther away and requires confirmed timing and may require a supplement.

Can the tour finish at Tangier airport or ferry port?add

Yes. The final return can be the airport, Tangier Ville Port, railway station or a hotel. Share the exact departure time before confirmation because the Asilah visit may need to be shortened to protect check-in.

What time does the tour return to Tangier on Day 7?add

Return is normally expected in the late afternoon. The exact time depends on Rabat departure, traffic, the Asilah walk, lunch and the final Tangier address. Flight or ferry commitments must be disclosed before booking.
